During this year’s graduation ceremony, Tullio Cedraschi, former member of the Board of Directors and longstanding Governor, presented the award that bears his name to two graduating students: Shayna Virginillo (Acting, 2016) and Frédéric Sasseville-Painchaud (Mise en scène, 2016).
The award was established in 2007 by Tullio Cedraschi in order to acknowledge students who best exemplify the mission of the National Theatre School of Canada.
The recipient of the award for the English section, Shayna Virginillo, was chosen by Gideon Arthurs, CEO, Alisa Palmer, Artistic Director of the English section, in consultation with faculty members.
Here is what Alisa Palmer had to say about this year’s recipient of the Tullio Cedraschi Award for the English section:
“Shayna has carved a unique path in her pursuit of artistic excellence; a path characterized by profound courage in the face of obstacles, both external and internal, and a steadfast attunement to the wellbeing of others. She is both a unifying force among colleagues, and an advocate for wellness and open communication. Her open heart, mind and deep sensitivity to a breathtaking range of voices are manifest in her work, where she has achieved a high level of artistic excellence while embodying the finest professional standards. Shayna will continue to inspire those around her with her commitment to empathy, dignity, kindness and hard work as core to artistic excellence.”
